The Google Nexus tablet by Asus which is supposed to be unveiled in a few days at the Google I/O conference this Wednesday has apparently been leaked as is being reported by Gizmodo Australia. The leak seems to have been done with the help of a training document, which Gizmodo Australia was able to lay its hands onto and the claim is backed with a genuine looking photo of the device.
The tablet is believed to feature a 1.3Ghz quad core Tegra 3 processor, GeForce 12-core GPU and 1GB of RAM. The device will also boast of a front facing 1.2 MP camera along with NFC and Google Wallet. The screen will be an IPS disp0lay with a resolution of 1280×800 with a viewing angle of about 178 degrees and the battery will give you around 9 hours of operation time.
The 7 inch tablet by Asus will sport Android 4.1, i.e., Jelly Bean and will be available in two different models, one with a storage capacity of 8GB for $199 and the other 16GB one for $249. There is no information on the release date of the device, though the same is believed to happen around July in Australia as well as the US market.
The pricing of the device is in line with the rumors that the Nexus tablet will cost lesser than the iPad. At the same time there are rumors, which suggest that Apple might soon come up with a 7 inch “iPad mini” to compete with the lesser priced Android tablets in the 7 inch category. At the same time the pricing of the Asus Nexus tablet is at par with Amazon’s Kindle Fire and that is something Amazon will have to work out to fend off the competition arising with this new Google tab. Kindle Fire still remains as the best selling Android tab till date.
